Our September competition to win 192 8oz jam jars with lids was tortuously difficult to judge. Entrants were required to give us a recipe in a jar, either sweet or savoury and the creativity on display was awe inspiring. We’re stunned and honoured by the wealth of talent our customers and friends possess and can’t wait to see what you all come up with for our next competition.
Competition winner Christine Iverson
Christine is a keen cook and crafter from Chichester. The final competition winner was chosen by our Facebook friends but Christine’s entry was a winner for us on a number of levels. Of course it’s perfect to be served in a jar, either to give away as a sweet treat gift or on a picnic. It also used one of our all time favourite things, jam and is easy for even novice cooks. No baking involved, it’s pure indulgence. Christine used her cheesecake recipe for a ladies day picnic at Fontwell, where we’re sure it went down a storm.
Our competition winner Christine’s cheesecake recipe in a jar made mouths water all over our office and had us rushing out to stock up on cream cheese, ribbons and digestives. We’re looking forward to seeing what recipes Christine comes up with next for her 192 strong competition prize.
Our competition winner had serious rivals…
From all the tempting recipes we received, we picked three finalists. Ann Bischtschuk came up with an unusual Rowan or Mountain Ash Berry Marmalade, which we appreciated as a delicious twist on a classic dish using an unusual ingredient, one often neglected despite being easily foraged. Our other finalist was Alison Allcock, with a Spicy Piccalilli that’s ideal for upcoming autumn and winter dishes.
While all three finalist recipes were tempting, the final winner was selected having garnered the most Facebook ‘likes’ – but we’re pretty sure a number of you will be trying out all three dishes!
All three recipe in a jar finalists’ entries are posted on our Facebook page and we expect our readers to have great fun testing them for themselves and coming up with their own variations on the theme.
