50ml miniature jam jars at Wares of Knutsford
The jars are 65mm tall with a 36mm diameter base. They are available in packs of 12, 24, 36 or 130 and with a choice of lid colours: silver, gold or black. The jars are in a classic, straight sided shape and look great plain or decorated with a pretty label or ribbon. Remember to sterilise jars and lids before use them if you are filling them with a food product.
Flavoured sugar in miniature jam jars
Infused sugars can add delicate flavour to drinks and desserts, around the rim of cocktail glasses and over fruits and pancakes. They make lovely gifts or favours.
Citrus fruits are ideal for flavouring sugar. Collect the zest from a lemon, lime or orange and lay out to dry overnight on a sheet of baking paper. Stir the dried zest into caster sugar and pour into mini jam jars. Sprinkle some zest on the top for decoration, seal the jar and leave in a cool, dark place for a week to allow the flavours to infuse.
Lavender or coffee sugars
Use the same basic method; stir some lavender flowers or coffee beans into the sugar and allow to infuse for a week before straining through a sieve. Alternatively you can grind the lavender and coffee to a very fine consistency so that you don’t have to remove it from the sugar.
Decorate the jars with some twine and a slice of dried fruit or a sprig of fresh lavender.
Home scents in miniature jam jars
If you don’t want to pay for expensive scented candles and can’t face pot-pourri, you can make your own really simple and superbly fragrant air fresheners. Fill some mini jam jars with baking soda and stir in a few drops of your favourite essential oil. You can also mix different oils to create your own scented blend. Leave the jars open to add a delicate scent to the air.
You can create a similar effect by adding some slices of lemon or orange, and some whole spices to a jar, then filling it up with water. Not only will it smell great, it will look pretty – and all without the aid of nasty chemicals.
