Are you one of the millions of enthusiastic Brits who can’t wait for summer so that they can dust off the barbecue and eat outdoors? Before you make your own barbecue sauce, you need to consider the bottles you are going to use. For a professional finish, use a special sauce bottle such as our wonderful hexagonal bottle. Holding 250ml, the hexagonal bottle is reminiscent of old-style sauces from the 70s and will set off your homemade creations perfectly.

Here is the recipe for our homemade barbecue sauce:

500ml tomato ketchup
250ml water
100ml apple cider vinegar
10 tbsp brown sugar
½ tbsp mustard
1 tsp ground black pepper
1 tbsp lemon juice
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

The thing we love about a lot of homemade sauces is that there is often very little to it, which certainly applies to this recipe. Simply add all the ingredients to a pan and bring to the boil, stirring all the time. Reduce the heat to a gentle simmer and cook for 75 minutes. Allow to cool slightly and decant into sterilised bottles.

We can heartily recommend this sauce poured liberally over all sorts of barbecued foods. It is brilliant with ribs, chicken drumsticks and lamb chops, and it will even spice up some barbecued vegetables for any vegetarian guests.
